Recent studies indicate that the average Aussie gets almost 30% of their daily calories from snacking. That's almost 1 third of your daily intake of food coming from everything you eat between your regular meals!

And so often it's the snack foods we eat that let us down.

Over-fueling on coffee? Over-indulging on treats full of Added Sugars? Gobbling down nutrient-poor processed snacks with little food value?

Then you know that feeling come 3pm when everything seems harder, energy and motivation seem distant memories. The dreaded mid arvo slump!

It doesn't have to be like this! You should be enjoying sustained energy throughout the day! (Hint: The solution is NOT more coffee!)

Here are 5 EASY TIPS from Nutritionist Kate Johnston on how to avoid that mid arvo slump:

  1. Balance your blood sugars by including protein and fat with each meal and snack

  2. Hydrate throughout the day with water and herbal teas

  3. Avoid excessive coffee – this can stimulate energy at first, but create slumps over time

  4. Move your body – taking a break every hour to go for a quick walk around the office or outside can help to revitalise you

  5. Get adequate sleep – if you are not sleeping well, you will be operating at a deficit the next day
