With so many new and different diets popping up all the time - understanding what we should eat can be really confusing.
Nutrition Australia has cut through the confusion and updated their famous Australian Healthy Eating Pyramid. Check it out here !
The take away for me relates to something we've all heard so many times before:
Eat a balanced diet.
I think a lot of us don't really know what that means. The pyramid serves to show the balanced means a balance of all the different food groups. We so often get caught up in the nutrient details like protein, carbs, fats, sugars. (Which does play a part in understanding good nutrition) But the Pyramid approach is about focusing on getting your food groups right, and all the nutrient goodness flows from that.
The Pyramid "contains the five core food groups, plus healthy fats, according to how much they contribute to a balanced diet based on the Australian Dietary Guidelines (2013)."
